We have always been,
729
we are most 4 grateful to the governments for the hells it has afforded us . We ash nothing from it which has not over and over again been admitted to be our due in recompense for the work done
by
our mission in
Hongkong out of it's slender resources. We are quite willing to submit to a govern ment, inspection, to be judged by results, to be aided only in proportion to the effective work done by us, Our work can be equally well tested whether we use our own books or the books chosen. by
by a committe, It is only to measure us as it were our own standard and then compare standards.
There is therefore no good reason why the terms of the original understanding came to with the stongkong "government, terms proposed by that government, and not by us, should not be carried out, and I venture most Respectfully to request your Lordship to instruch St., C. the Governor of Hongkong not to impose on the R. C. Schools the use of any Special books, to leave them entirely at liberty as regards their methods of instruction and to regulate his standards for testing results with a view to money grants on the basis of free choice of books and methods by school manager,
am
With much respect
Your Lordships most obedient, & humble
Servant
Thaimendi
Prefect Aportlic of the Catholis Misson
